Begin your weaving journey with these "Fundamentals of Weaving" classes

Fundamentals of Weaving, Part 1 A A comprehensive First Class in Weaving for the Beginner
You will learn to warp a loom to prepare for weaving, then weave your first project using a 4 harness loom. This class will help you become acquainted with the all the basic skills of a weaver.
What will you learn in Part 1 ?
- the vocabulary of weaving
- how to plan a project
- how to measure the warp yarn to put on the loom
- how to read a pattern draft
- how to warp a loom in preparation for weaving
- how to weave your project using Tabby (plain weave) and straight twill patterns
- how to finish your project with hem or fringe
5 sessions of 3 1/2 hours each plus free studio time to work on your project outside of class.
Cost, including use of tools and materials is $250 (class maximum of 2 students)
Fundamentals of Weaving, Part 2 Becoming a Weaver
In this class you will expand your understanding of weave structure by exploring Twills and color. After completing Part 2, you are ready to begin weaving on your own!
(prerequisite: Fundamentals of Weaving Part 1 or equivalent)
What will you learn in Part 2?
- you will explore some of the many variations of Twill weave structures and solidify your ability to understand weaving pattern drafts.
- you will play with the interaction of color through a color gamp sampler
- we will explore plaids and 2 shuttle weaving.
- experience weaving with finer yarns to create tea towels.
5 Class sessions, each 3 1/2 hours long, plus free studio time to work on your project outside of class.
Cost, including use of tools and materials is $250
(maximum of 2 students)
These are comprehensive classes. If you would like to try weaving in a fun, less intensive environment, we recommend signing up for a half day
"Make 'n Take" weaving class. Make a scarf or a rug!

Classes for more experienced Weavers

Exploring Rug weaving
We will explore basic Weft and Warp faced rug weaving
In this class you will:
- experience creating pattern in the warp vs pattern in the weft
- discuss a variety of weft materials and how to prepare them for rug weaving
- Weave a sample in Warp faced structure
- Weave a rug or several samples using weft faced materials, as in rag rugs
- You are encouraged to provide your own "rags" to make a more personal project

Exploring Overshot
Become familiar with this weave structure in history, and learn how to weave it today
In this class you will:
- explore the weave structure of beautiful Colonial Coverlets. This amazing weave structure was developed to make the most of simple 4 harness looms. We will look at period Weaver's draft books as well as modern adaptions.
- This 2 shuttle weave with its infinite variations can be used to weave towels, borders, table runners and of course, the iconic Coverlet
- In this class we will have time to make a throw or several smaller samples
